Stoke Newington Church Street

This is a fine example of a Grade 2* listed early Georgian town house, which forms the central part of a larger terrace, and is located within a Conservation Area. The project carefully repaired and restored the house as a family home, with a separate basement flat.

REPAIRING THE BUILDING

This building had a large amount of original 18th century fabric intact, with later 19th and 20th century amendments. All the original joinery, including doors, door linings, architraves, skirtings, staircase, and panelling, were retained. The staircase was complete between the ground floor and third floor and is a vital element of the historic character of the building.

NEW ELEMENTS

A contemporary kitchen and bathrooms were created in the panelled rooms, by placing the kitchen cabinets and bathroom elements as freestanding objects held away from the historic fabric.
