Stepney Green

This project comprised of the repair and refurbishment of a Grade 2 late 18th century house, with the conversion and repair of a late 19th century outbuilding bakery, to form part of the living accommodation. The project included the re-roofing of the bakery building with a traditional green oak “A frame” structure and natural slate coverings, and the recreation of the open yard between the main building and the bakery. The project also included the careful repair and restoration of the shopfront, painted sign, brickwork and existing box sash windows.

Our contemporary interventions included the making of a sequence of interior spaces on the ground floor, which leads from a formal dining space located in the shop, through a snug into a yard containing a galley kitchen with glazed enclosure, finally concluding in a double height living space in the bakery with a mezzanine level home office space.
