This project included the creation of a new rear garden to a Grade II* listed late Georgian house in Holland Park. The rear garden was a small intimate area and the client has a number of statues and other fragments of stonework, which he wished to accommodate. The brief included the redesign of the fountain and grotto and new staircase linking the piano nobile with the garden. The garden is used for occasional performances and music recitals and the client was keen to incorporate a considerable amount of lighting so that the garden could be used in the early evening.
The new landscape included primary hard surfaces with retaining walls and carefully laid out York stone paving to create a raised performance space. The garden includes a range of traditional plants and planters to complete the landscape. The elements of the garden were loosely arranged in a classical narrative to picturesque effect.
