Georgian Buildings

Butler and Hegarty Architects' work over the past 20 years has continually included Georgian buildings and their repair. The work has ranged from the careful conservation of high status buildings to derelict cottages. Many of the projects have involved alterations and extensions to make the buildings convenient for modern living. In each case the approach has been one of understanding the nature and quality of the original buildings, and ensuring the historic fabric is coherent and well conserved, before making contemporary interventions that complement the historic fabric.

We believe that all proposed interventions in Georgian buildings should start by acknowledging the status of the building, the building development pattern, and the contribution made by the patina of age that make historic houses so attractive.
