Wardrobe

This project was a public exhibition of students' work from Gary Butler's design studio held in the gallery of Faculty of Art and Design at Kingston University. The "wardrobe" was seen both as a metaphorical construction/furniture and expression of a particular character. Students were given a volume (body size) and sheet of plywood to explore the ideas of the wardrobe. Resting on the evocative imagery of CS Lewis the wardrobe was seen as container, place of transition, holder of secrets, piece of furniture and sculptural object. The resultant construction was the first part of a spatial study for an architectural investigation and project that explored sheltered housing for senior citizens.
